Hell's Gate or Gate of Death
Entrance to Birkenau (Auschwitz-II) known as Hell's Gate or Gate of Death. It was from here that the trains packed with prisoners would enter the concentration camp. After the prisoners disembarked, they would get sorted as healthy or weak. The former were taken to the barracks while the weak (women, children, invalids, elderly people) would either be shot on the spot, or taken to one of the six gas chambers built to liquidate them.
